To customize or not to customize...

Many staffing companies, headhunters, etc will want you to customize your resume to put your skills in the best light for the job. The question to ask yourself is, "Will it generate an interview, or even a job offer?"

During one job search I customized my resume for many opportunities that all failed to produce a job. So I stopped and my basic resume worked just fine. I'm told it can work and I will tell you that some recruiters will push for you to do it.

My advice? Look at the job description and requirements to see if your resume is close enough. Tweaking details is not going to get you in the door. Use the cover letter to highlight key points. Re-writing your resume just creates more work for you... to re-write the resume and to keep track of who got what revision.

But, you should decide for yourself.
